Andrea Barela
Andrea Barela is a Colorado native and has worked at NEWSED CDC since 2006. At NEWSED she serves as the President and CEO and is responsible for facilitating NEWSED’s vision, mission, goals and objectives in coordination with the staff and board of directors. One of her biggest responsibilities is the event direction of one of Colorado’s largest cultural events, the Denver Cinco de Mayo Festival, that attracts up to 400,000 attendees annually. Andrea also serves as the board President of the Santa Fe Business Improvement District located in Denver’s Art District on Santa Fe. Andrea has a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and a Masters in Public Administration with an emphasis in Nonprofit Management from the University of Colorado at Denver. Andrea is married and as two sons.

Elisa Berzins

Elisa is a highly effective communicator with a formidable reputation for providing consistent and creative results, while establishing lasting and genuine relationships. She continues to have an exceptional and successful career focused in promotions, marketing, special events, and fundraising, in a multitude of industries, such as professional sports, consumer goods, and in the non-profit realm. When she isn’t focused on her clients and events, she enjoys all of the outdoor sports and adventures Colorado, her home state, has to offer. Elisa also has a proclivity for travel and the desire and need to experience new cultures. This has allowed her to learn and grow as a person which has benefited her personally and professionally by unmeasurable amounts. Therefore, she makes the effort to take at least one international trip to new country, every year.

Stephen Collum
Sunbelt Rentals
Stephen was born in Savannah, Ga and moved to Nashville, TN when he was 18. Three years later, he met Ali and they have been together ever since. He started at Sunbelt when he was 20 in Nashville and worked as the yard boy, mechanic, on road mechanic, setup technician, inside sales, rental manager and now outside sales. They moved to Boulder in 2010 and haven’t looked back since. They love everything about Colorado and originally moved for the Winters and snowboarding and now enjoy the summers the most. He has been with Sunbelt for 14 years setting up events all over the country.

Brooke Cowdrey

Brooke has 35 years of experience in construction related fields.  He has worked with special events services including: fencing, crowd control barricades, sweeping, power washing, and cleanup for 15 years.

Sharon Dermody

Ryan Evans
Bruz Beers
Ryan is a co-founder of Bruz and is responsible for brewery operations. A Colorado native, Ryan has an MBA from the University of Denver and has extensive business experience – having held executive positions in several industries. Also a homebrewer, Ryan discovered Belgian beer while backpacking through Europe and couldn’t get them out of his mind. He returned from his travels with a thirst for Belgian beer and a love for Belgian culture. An avid outdoor sports enthusiast, Ryan has climbed nearly all of Colorado’s “fourteeners” and is a lover of hiking, camping and backcountry skiing. He has climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa, adding it to the list of famous mountains he has summited. Having been on Denali three times, he says he still has another trip up that amazing mountain in him!

Michael Ferraiolo

Michael Ferraiolo was born in Craig, CO and raised outside Washington D.C. He graduated from Virginia Tech University with a Bachelors in Marketing and Management. He previously spent 5 years at Turner in New York City working for their TBS, TNT and Turner Sports properties. He worked to revamp their OTT and CTV apps and offerings, with a focus on audience based targeting. Michael relocated to be closer to his family here in Denver in the summer of 2018. Since then, he has worked with the Denver Post and Adtaxi on the Arts and Entertainment desk; spearheading all partnership and sponsorship agreements. He is excited to be back in Colorado and looks forward to the many events that take place all around the state throughout the year.

Andrea Furness
Team Player Events
In the events industry since 2003, Andrea joined Team Player Productions in 2016 to serve as the event director of TPP’s newly adopted event, the People’s Fair.  Prior to her joining TPP, Andrea produced the People’s Fair for Capitol Hill United Neighborhoods for 11 years. Andrea has also produced other major events such as 2018’s Mile High 420 Festival, the Highlands Street Fair, Denver Burger Battle and others.  Andrea previously spent eight years working in sports public relations, first for the Colorado Rapids Soccer Team, and then for the Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club. During her time in sports, she assisted in producing several major fundraisers and community events, which gave her a taste of the fast-paced and ever-changing world of event life.  Andrea is a Colorado native, and a graduate of the University of Colorado Boulder with degrees in Journalism and Communications.

Travis Hooten

Travis is the Denver Operations Officer for Code 4 Security Services.  He has been in the security industry for 7 years in criminal justice.

Matthew Kowal
Majestic Collaborations
As the creative director of over 100 festivals for New Belgium Brewing (2005-2016) Matthew coordinated partnerships between brands, artists, and non-profit organizations to present highly participatory gatherings which raised over $5 million for community organizations and advanced   awareness of over a million attendees about people-powered transportation advocacy, bicycle culture, art and music causes, while striving to address gender and diversity equity in talent booking and leadership. His collaborations with artists, community partners, and national media outlets made sustainability and safety communications memorable across multiple platforms for more nationwide initiatives. He commissioned solar, biofuel and transportation systems, and helped design waste and water reduction programs for festivals that remain state-of-the-art.  

Courtney Mathis
Courtney Mathis​ is the President and Co-Founder of kindColorado, a social venture to connect cannabis businesses to communities, projects and nonprofits. She has over 15 years of experience working in executive nonprofit management, event management and business brand messaging for both the public and private sectors. The last five years she has specialized in helping cannabis businesses to engage with nonprofits, neighborhood groups, and other sector leaders. Her work has spanned from boutique dispensaries to national cannabis industry groups.  The result of these collaborations has led to thoughtful community engagement partnerships, cross-sector brand loyalty, and high-impact, events​.​ In addition to co-founding kindColorado and the CSR™ framework, she is also the co-founder of Cannabis Doing Good, a platform to help lead and demonstrate the positive impacts of the cannabis sector.  Last year Courtney hosted purpose-driven cannabis events  in Austin, New Orleans, Toronto, Las Vegas and Denver. This years she plans to expand the states she works in as well as increase the money made for community causes. She believes purpose-driven events are one of the most effective ways to establish unique brand messaging and for the cannabis industry to enhance its community.  Courtney is a long-time activist and social change leader. She believes that through strategic community outreach, local events and dynamic messaging, that the cannabis industry will be a welcomed community asset. She has earned her Masters in Nonprofit Management with certifications in Nonprofit Capacity Building and Nonprofit Leadership. She was honored with the David M Clarke fellowship for demonstrated leadership and potential to make a contribution to the nonprofit sector and is recognized as a civil society capacity builder. When she isn’t working, she’s reading her favorite comic, or planning her next vacation with her family.

Kirby Nelson-Hazelton

Kirby Nelson-Hazelton has been partnering with festivals and events as an organizer, exhibitor, and attendee (of course!) for nearly a decade. Her career has centered around marketing, community relations, and programming for governmental agencies and private businesses alike. Kirby is currently a co-owner of Rock Cut Brewing Company in Estes Park. She is also the vice-president of the boards of Estes Valley Partners for Commerce and the Estes Park Nonprofit Resource Center.

Anna Salim
Downtown Boulder Partnership
Anna Salim is the Vice President of Events & Membership for the Downtown Boulder Partnership, a non-profit organization and BID dedicated to the continued preservation and enhancement of Downtown Boulder as the heart of the greater Boulder community. Ms. Salim has been with Downtown Boulder for nearly a decade, and is responsible for the planning, execution and sponsorship sales for over a dozen community events. She also oversees the organization’s membership team and manages the special projects of the Downtown Boulder Foundation. Prior to joining Downtown Boulder, Ms. Salim taught film production at the Colorado Film School and Regis University. She holds a BA in Arts Administration from Lewis & Clark College and an M.F.A. in Film Production from Chapman University.

Steven Stokes

Steven Stokes is currently the Special Event Supervisor at the City of Northglenn, a suburb 12 miles north of Denver. In his current position he was tasked with starting three new festivals in three years. Food Truck Carnival, Pirate Fest, and Magic Festival. His background and knowledge spans 22 years as an event planner producing over 850 events to over 2 million people and also includes 7 years of co-owning an event business. Steven also developed the Event Management Certificate Program at Arapahoe Community College and taught there for 10 years.

Chris is the owner of Code 4 Security Services.  He is a former police officer and spent seventeen years in law enforcement.   He holds a BA in Criminal Justice and a MA in Organizational Leadership. Chris is a former trainer and is a presenter for the City of Fort Collins and the Colorado Department of Corrections, Parole Division.

Scott Vitale
Spigot Labs
Scott Vitale is the founder and CEO at Spigot Labs, a technology company that has built Taste Tracking for beer, wine, and food events. Scott is also a co-organizer of Belgian Brew Fest, and blends his love of beer with his engineering background on a daily basis.

McShan Walker
Elkins Distillery
McShan is a co founder and owner of Elkins Distilling Co., the first and only distillery in Estes Park as well as the Director of Sales and Business Development for a military sales company out of Tulsa, Ok. An Alabama native and graduate of the University of the South – Sewanee (Sewanee, TN), he moved to Colorado in 2014 after a multi year and multi state search to find the best location to explore the near-mad idea of opening a tiny craft whisky distillery as an actual business.
